Lena Klink 's movement practice, body parts shifting, is based on research of neuroplasticity. this practice is anchored on how habits are established and manifested in our bodies and how they can be transformed. The aim of the practice is to teach the body how to transfer actions/reactions, that have already been implemented, to another body system and thus place them in new contexts. Moving body parts as other body parts would do.
recycle - rediscover - replace
In that manner a session can be designed in a way that we shift neuron-rich-places like the fingertips into body parts with less neurons like the thighs. Further we can inspire less mobile places like the sacrum to be free in movement like the shoulder. Qualitites of movement, like the opening of an eye can give usefull information how to stretch or reach out.
As we carry in us already everything that we need, the practise is flexible enough to be adapted as a matching support to adress specific body parts and qualities in order to fulfill choreographic needs, as happened in the process of Kat Valastur's Diana, Even 2021-2022. Further the movement research realized a transformation of march and polka dance in the solo performance Schritt, premiered at Blank Check Festival 1 by nein9 kollektiv in cooperation with DOCK ART 2022. Workshops of body parts shifting took place as profi training in DOCK 11, during Tanecno Dance Festival in Namestovo, Slovakia 2022 and further nein9 sessions open to the Berlin dance scene.
Perspectives, knowledge and approaches of the practise are enriched by the combination of teachings by Meytal Blanaru's Awareness through Movement, Janyce Michellod's visualisation work and the fine arts influence of Yuka Tanaka. Through the funding of Dis-Tanzen, NEUSTART KULTUR, Dachverband Tanz Deutschland and by the Commissions of the Federal Government for Culture and Media in 2021, the movement research was able to grow and implement set of scores.
In particular, I would like to express my great appreciation for all nein9 members, extended members, friends and dancers of the scenes in Berlin, Germany, Europe for contributing to the growth of the practise with each participation and/or feedback given. Without you there wouldn't be a likewise research.
